One Year Anniversary

Scott and I headed to the mountains of Charlottesville to celebrate our big One Year. We stayed for a long weekend at the Boars Head Inn (boarsheadinn.com). It's similar to the hotel we stayed at on our wedding night with its vintage elegance, luxury, and charm (berkeleyhotel.com). We arrived at the inn mid-afternoon, settled in, and then enjoyed wine tasting with other couples retreating for the weekend. We had dinner reservations in the Old Mill Room at 6:30 so we got fancy and enjoyed a delicious meal by the fire. The rest of the weekend we visited Michie Tavern, enjoyed some other restaurants, explored, and went to see "The Book of Eli"- a great movie! We loved unwinding together all cozied-up in the mountains.

Charlottesville still had some leftover snow from the first big snow fall this year. And speaking of snow, we got hit with 9.5 inches this weekend! Scott has the weekend off so it's been fun getting snowed in together and thankfully we didn't lose any power! Schools are closed for tomorrow, but I'll be busy getting report cards done. Exciting.

Enjoy some photos from our trip:

The Boars Head Inn

Michie Tavern - We ate the delish "Midday Fare" and then took a tour.

I pulled our wedding cake out of the freezer to thaw and when I unwrapped it, most of the icing stuck to the foil. After a whole year (plus a couple weeks) it was still yummy! I think I'll add a photo of the cake from our wedding day.
Random shots: I took these photos from our deck on two different mornings. Seriously, how can someone think God doesn't exist, when we're surrounded by so much beauty?

Ringing in the New Year

Happy New Year!
I think I say this every year, but it's hard to believe another one has passed.
Scott had to work on New Year's Eve; however, I did have the company of his parents to celebrate with...and by celebrating, I mean I went to bed before midnight because sleep seemed more important than trying to keep my dreary eyes open for the ball drop. It was great. And it was cozy.
The Saturday-after is when we celebrated party-style. We invited all our friends over for a night of food and games. I meant to snap a bunch of photos, but all I managed to get was one photo before all the guests arrived of Ben holding baby Jilli as awkwardly as possible. It was too darn funny not to - I don't know if the pic will do it justice. I also couldn't pass up putting a photo of the sweetest (and I mean sweet, dude) Christmas gift from Britt. I heart it. Here they are:
On Monday the 4th, it was back to the daily grind. It was tough getting into the swing of things after a two-week break, but somehow I managed. I know, rough life ;) Sooo...when's Spring Break?
My job is challenging, but I do love it...and not many people can say that. This job was one of 2009's blessings from heaven.
And speaking of blessings...how about our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY...tomorrow! I can't believe Scott and I have already been through our first married year. Wow. There's no better way to start off the year than getting to marry your best friend...and NOW getting to celebrate that momentous day! (Because I didn't want Scott to worry about taking this whole weekend off, we're celebrating next weekend when I have a Monday-holiday off from school and he has off. Perfect for a long weekend getaway. Can't wait!) The wedding was such a special time filled with overwhelming love and joy. The day could not have been more beautiful, elegant, or simply amazing. I'll spare you all the cheesy, romantic thoughts floating around my head when I think about our wedding day so I don't sound like a babbling fool drunk on love. However, I will leave you with the lyrics from our first dance as husband and wife :)

"Everything" by Michael Buble

You're a falling star, you're the get-away car.
You're the line in the sand when I go too far.
You're the swimming pool, on an August day.
And you're the perfect thing to say.

And you play it coy but it's kinda cute.
Ah, when you smile at me you know exactly what you do.
Baby don't pretend that you don't know it's true.
'cause you can see it when I look at you.

[Chorus:]
And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It's you, it's you, you make me sing.
You're every line, you're every word, you're everything.

You're a carousel, you're a wishing well,
And you light me up, when you ring my bell.
You're a mystery, you're from outer space,
You're every minute of my everyday.

And I can't believe, uh that I'm your man,
And I get to kiss you baby just because I can.
Whatever comes our way, ah we'll see it through,
And you know that's what our love can do.

[Chorus]

So, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
So, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

[Chorus:]
And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It's you, it's you, you make me sing.
You're every line, you're every word, you're everything.
You're every song, and I sing along.
'Cause you're my everything.
Yeah, yeah

So, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
So, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

Happy Anniversary, Babe :) You're my everything and I thank God for you everyday. I'm glad we get to grow old together. I love you.
